Brighton, UK. 2026.
I am a fashion design graduate from Kingston University London, specialising in political and social messaging through print design. Since leaving, I have taken part in community-led art events in London, printing for local companies and running a sustainable print-in-fashion project at Brighton Metropolitan College.
I graduated with a Graduate Fashion Week award for culture and heritage. The collection was based entirely around the reclamation of British patriotism. Exploring the themes of identity in modern political landscapes has given me ideological insights on what it means to be young and British today. Through this, I have created a strong sense of self and brand identity.
In my work since, I reference past, present and future struggles of the Union of Great Britain: Wales, Scotland, Ireland and England. Traditional slogans, emblems, crests and phrases have been reworded and printed to question the integrity of our current government, the monarchy as a symbol of "Britishness" and holds the legacy of a 14-year-old Tory tenure to account.
As citizens, we navigate continuous tumultuous times in British politics and I aim to represent feelings of distinct and profound change in young people's political and ideological beliefs. Print is imperative to "political optics" and message sending; therefore I deploy it liberally in meaning and in fabrication. Using only second-hand garments, I place a new meaning onto the traditional "Britishness" in order to reclaim patriotism from right-wing scaremongers, giving our country a new meaning: of unprejudiced inclusivity and solidarity, curating a look of 'diverse harmony' that exists within our union today.
Sustainability is key to my practice; all garments available are sourced second-hand and selected by me personally for a chance at a second life.
A great printed t-shirt is fundamental to any wardrobe, especially ones with a purposeful message.
